Today as Martin Luther King Jr. day winds down we are faced with carrying the still not achieved dream in a time and era where the possibility of that dream being achieved is so possible. Below I have dropped some MLK quotes and have added my commentary in relevance to today’s American landscape. Feel free to comment and add your dreams and hopes because without a doubt that is what MLK stood for.
“I look to a day when people will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. “——Martin Luther King, Jr
Let’s deal with “content of character”. In today’s world, people have lost and sold their souls for every material and superficial need that may exist, all at the expense of the content of their character. I believe that if Martin was still alive he would be ashamed of how this society as a whole has digressed, especially a large sector of the African American community. I know many in the African American & people of color community would like the excuse away why things have so digressed but you cannot give excuses for mediocrity and lack of integrity anymore than the racist of the past and present would be given. This is a time of great opportunity in spite of being in the Eye of the Storm. So all people of America need to wake up, build up their character!!!!! Stop blaming without when it is the American people as a whole that are failing within. I might not have been the biggest MLK fan out there but when I hear that bold statement of “content of character” that directly affected how I decided to build myself within. If you have yet to do some true soul searching and building, THE TIME IS NOW!!!
“A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual doom.“———Martin Luther King, Jr.
This statement is true as it was first stated by MLK. We in America have become a fear mongering nation with a large dose of military extremism. Folks have gotten comfortable with their big screen TVs, big toys, eating out, and routines so much that they have deluded themselves into believing that we can cut every program in the government except military. But let’s think about this deal. If our society is not so quick to go to war with every country and their brother then maybe we would be able to better care for Americans within America. Am I a proponent of all social programs? No, but in a society as large as ours there is bound to be those who have needs. I would rather it help my fellow man instead of merking other people in other countries. So think about how this country has swiftly fallen from its perch as the beloved??? We must be our Brothers/Sisters keeper even when our Brother/Sisters has little or no sense and not be so willing to hurt someone else in the world due to military extremism and cowardly fear-mongering mentalities.

“A genuine leader is not a searcher for consensus but a molder of consensus. “——Martin Luther King, Jr.
A great leader must be a bit misunderstood due to them having to make the tough decisions. As someone who has led on different levels and in different circumstances one of the main roadblocks that I had to deal with within self was to be the molder of the consensus. We all desire to be liked and in some respects to fit in but as a leader you stand alone. What the world is missing now are leaders on all levels of America. Everytime I turn around all I see are those who want to follow and copy others who exist. As a professional musician and music producer I am in constant contact with non-original, following types of aspiring artists, musicians, etc. It is wholly disappointing but as a leader I can not focus on what those who don’t have it together do; all I can do is continue to be is a molder in this society.
Now off to speaking about one of the greatest underdog victors or recent and past times: PRESIDENT OBAMA.
President Obama has the makings of a great leader but I honestly believe that he is a searcher of the consensus at times when he has to be the molder of the consensus. I do not criticize or hold him to a higher standard than prior Presidents but I say this that though he had been dealt with an uphill battle against all sides, he has made it far tougher for himself by searching as opposed to holding and towing the line by molding the consensus. The jury is still out on his Presidency but I think he will surprisingly match up to some of the great Presidents whether re-elected or not.
“A man who won’t die for something is not fit to live. “——-Martin Luther King, Jr.
In today’s society and world it seems like Everytime you turn on the TV or read the paper they are speaking of how many Americans are dying by the hand of another America over foolish reasons most times. I think this “lost and turned” out mentality is the main root of the demise of America. Some will blame it on a lack of solid upbringing and some will blame it on a litany of other reasons but we must be truthful and point at ourselves if we are not willing to develop our character. If we develop ourselves to the best of our abilities then we would understand the difference between what is worth fighting and dying for. I know little homies on the street still to this day who are willing to die for a block that they don’t even own. What kind of moronic BS is that? We as Americans have to stop cowering to the challenge of becoming better and more developed human beings in the easy technological society we have found ourselves in. When things get easier the challenge only gets harder to stay focused in spite of the majority being completely unfocused, undisciplined, lazy, and lacking internal fortitude. So as Martin said, “if a man won’t die for something he is not fit to live.”
Bottom line: We all have dreams, hopes, and desires. Be a part of making those come true. When we apply more energy to the content of ourselves we will find that the things that we complain about in this society will virtually disappear. Today on Martin Luther King holiday is the best time to start. Make the commitment and take on the challenge which is tangible to all our lives!!!!!!!!Also, check out the ‘I have a Dream Speech” at:http://www.usconstitution.net/dream.htmlDBXXL:
